In this course the laws of thermodynamics will be applied to gas, liquid, solid and crystalline systems. Phase equilibria and phase stability of fluid and stressed crystalline systems will be examined. Thermochemistry and the application of thermodynamics to surface and interfaces will also be introduced. The theory of thermodynamics and developing the foundation of thermodynamics for application to new situations, as well as its application to real problems, will be emphasized. 4 hrs. lec.
