The Department The Department of Metallurgical Engineering was founded in 1906 and became the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in 1992.

Industrial Internship Option The Industrial Internship Option (IIO), unique to the Department, offers the undergraduate students in Materials Science and Engineering an opportunity to supplement the regular academic program with valuable practical experience through alternating periods in industry and on campus, beginning in the spring of the sophomore year.
